Who is Syed Salahuddin, and what is a ‘global terrorist’?
Syed Salahuddin, the United States designated “global terrorist”, is the “supreme commander” of the militant component of Hizbul Mujahideen Kashmir.
A statement issued by the US State Department reported that Salahuddin has pledged to block any peaceful resolution of the Kashmir conflict threatened to train one suicide terrorists and pledged to transform the Kashmir valley into a cemetery of Indian forces. ”
Born Mohammed Yusuf Shah, Salahuddin changed his name after taking the head of the militant group in the late eighties.

Hizb-ul-Mujahideen is one of many militant groups that have fought for decades for an independent Kashmir or a merger with Pakistan. Salahuddin has openly claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack on the Pathankot military base last year.
Before joining Hizbul Salahuddin disputed unsuccessfully in parliamentary elections in Jammu and Kashmir in 1987, from riding Amirakadal.
Salahuddin has played in his anti-India position. He also repeatedly stressed the role of Pakistan in troubled Kashmir.
“The struggle of the mujahideen uses a line of defense in Pakistan,” said Salahuddin. A photo of him with the 26/11 brain, Hafiz Saeed, has appeared a couple of days before Union Minister Rajnath Singh will pay a visit to Pakistan last year.
India has been pressuring the UN Security Council to declare a global terrorist, the latest attempt blocked by China.
